Athlete of the Week: Pete Caringi III, Men's Soccer

Junior Pete Caringi III smashed career highs with three goals and two assists as the Retrievers exploded for five goals in a 5-1 victory over Boston University in front of 1,444 fans during Homecoming Festivities at Retriever Soccer Park. His three goals occurred in a 13-minute segment in a four-goal Retriever second half. Caringi's eight-point performance was UMBC's first since Ted Lawler scored four goals vs. UMES in 1995. He also scored the game's first goal at Albany on Oct. 10, giving him four goals and two assists for the week. He now has a career-best eight goals in a single season and has reached 18 in his tenure. For efforts, Caringi was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week for games ending Oct. 14.
Honorable Mention: Junior Brandan McGee was the top Retriever finisher at the Princeton Invitational this weekend, completing the 8K course in a school-record time of 24:46.0. McGee, who has led the Retrievers three times now this season, broke the record time of 24:51.0 set by Izudin Mehmedovic in 2005.
