Athlete of the Week: Mohamed Hussein, Men's Swimming and Diving

Junior Mohamed Hussein broke four individual school records, achieved three NCAA “B” cuts, and won two individual tiles at the ECAC Championships at Harvard. For his efforts, the Cairo, Egypt native was named the ECAC Male Swimmer of the Year. Hussein started his weekend by breaking the meet record and lowering his NCAA consideration and UMBC school record time in the 200-yd. IM to 1:44.60. Then, after winning the 200 free on Saturday, the junior exploded for a record-breaking Sunday. He started off by winning the 200 back with an ECAC meet record, UMBC school record, and “B” cut time of 1:45.23 and continued by breaking the school record in the 50 free during a time trial (20.33). Hussein then put a cap on the weekend by leading off for the record-setting 400 free relay team. As the lead-off swimmer, Hussein registered a school record and NCAA “B” time of 43.83, giving the team a boost to also break the school mark meet record (2:58.47) to receive NCAA consideration.
