Athlete of the Week: Phil Saunders, Men's Soccer

Phil Saunders was named the Most Outstanding Player of America East Tournament. He shut out Stony Brook, 1-0, in the semis, and then New Hampshire, 0-0, in the finals which went to two overtimes. The junior netminder made five saves in regulation vs. UNH, and then made a game-saving, point-blank stop with less than four minutes remaining in the 2nd overtime period. Following the overtime periods, he stopped UNH's 2nd and 4th penalty kick attempts as UMBC advanced, 4-2. The Perry Hall, Md. native now has 8 shutouts on the season and has blanked three straight opponents.
