Athlete of the Week: Kevin Lachance, Baseball

Shortstop Kevin Lachance hit .474 (9-for-19) with three multi-hit games and was named the America East Rookie of the Week as UMBC went 4-1. The Clifton, Va. native collected four hits in the Retrievers’ 6-0 win at Coppin State for his second four-hit effort of the year. A day earlier, the rookie connected for two doubles while scoring a run and knocking one in as UMBC defeated UMES 8-5. Over the weekend, Lachance helped the Retrievers sweep Hartford in a doubleheader on Saturday, collecting two hits in the opener and drawing two walks in the night cap.

For the year, Lachance leads the club with a .302 average and 49 base-hits. He is also tied for the team lead with 11 doubles and has recorded 13 stolen bases to rank tied for fourth in UMBC’s single-season record book.
