UMBC Athlete of the Week: Abbey McKenney, Women’s Swimming & Diving

Abbey McKenney began her senior season the way she finished her last one, claiming four victories and breaking two pool records in the Retrievers’ 161-11 win at Rider on Saturday. The Wilmington, Del., native led off the day anchoring the 200-yard medley relay team to a win, then took the 50- and 100-yard freestyle titles before finishing with a victory in the 400-free relay. The Most Outstanding Swimmer at the 2011 America East Championships, McKenney broke Rider’s Coppola Pool record in the 50-free (24.37) and led the 400-free relay (3:33.99) to a new pool record, as well.
