Athlete of the Week: Jessica Warner, Softball

Over the weekend at the UMBC Spring Classic, Jessica Warner led the Retrievers with a .333 average (5-for-15) at the plate to go along with three homeruns. For her efforts, the Huntingtown, Md., native, was named the America East Player of the Week for the second straight week. In Friday’s 9-2 win over Sacred Heart, the sophomore third baseman belted two more homeruns to bring her season total to a team-leading seven round trippers. Warner leads UMBC with a .348 average (24-for-69), seven homeruns and 16 RBIs through the team’s 23 games. In the field, she is second on the team among everyday players with a .977 fielding percentage.
