Athlete of the Week: Allie Spaay, Volleyball

Senior Allie Spaay was named America East Setter of the Week on Monday after leading the Retrievers to a five-set win over Providence on Sunday, which clinched a spot in the four-team America East Championship. Spaay set a career high with 67 assists, averaging 13.40 assists per set, and also picked up 10 digs against the Friars to record her 14th double-double of the season. The Kenosha, Wis., native directed the Retriever offense to a .330 team hitting percentage in the match, and she added two service aces, a block and a kill, as well. Spaay ranks seventh all-time at UMBC with 2,234 career assists.
