UMBC Athlete of the Week: Levi Houapeu, Men’s Soccer
Nov. 8-14, 2010
Senior forward Levi Houapeu led the Retrievers to their first-ever America East title last week and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the conference tournament. He scored two goals in UMBC’s 3-2 semifinals victory over Stony Brook on Wednesday, tying an America East Championship record, and was the most dangerous player in the championship game, converting the first of UMBC’s five penalty kicks. The two-goal effort against the Seawolves was the sixth multi-goal game of his career and fourth of the season. Houapeu, the 2010 America East Striker of the Year, leads the America East with 14 goals and 31 points. He recently became the seventh player in school history to amass 30 career goals, and he ranks fourth on UMBC’s all-time scoring list with 84 points. No player in the nation has more points in the last two seasons than Houapeu’s 74. This is Houapeu’s second Athlete of the Week nod, as he also earned the honor for the week of Oct. 25-31.
