UMBC Athlete of the Week: Sabrina Hoeks, Volleyball

Senior Sabrina Hoeks led the Retrievers to a split of America East Conference road matches last weekend with a pair of double-doubles, bringing her season total to 13. On Friday at Hartford, she led UMBC with 18 kills and 16 digs in a come-from-behind 3-2 victory. Then on Sunday at Stony Brook, the outside hitter produced 19 kills and 10 digs. For the week, Hoeks averaged a team-best 3.43 kills per set and 3.86 digs per set as UMBC clinched a berth in the four-team America East Championship. The Olympia, Wash., native leads the Retrievers with 3.09 kills per set and 0.51 service aces per set, which leads the America East and ranks 10th in the nation. This is Hoeks’ second Athlete of the Week nod, as she also earned the honor for the week of Sept. 6-12.
