UMBC freshman goalkeeper Tommy Lingner earned multiple awards for his dominating play in the Retrievers' 11-7 upset of No. 1-ranked and previously undefeated Albany on Friday evening at UMBC Stadium.
On Monday, Lingner was named America East Conference Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week for games ending April 7, 2018. He was also honored by The Baltimore Sun, which tabbed him as the National Player of the Week and by the USILA, which selected Lingner to their Team of the Week.
Lingner made a season-high 16 saves in the game and stopped seven shots in the fourth quarter to thwart a late Great Dane rally.
The freshman is allowing only 8.35 goals per game, which is now 12th-best in the nation.
