Junior Alexander Gliese of the men's swimming and diving team has been named UMBC Athlete of the Week presented by Northwestern Mutual for the week ending 11/6.
Gliese broke two Old Dominion pool records while helping UMBC to a 164-133 win over the Monarchs on Saturday. Gliese's record-breaking performances came in the 100 and 200 back; he touched in the 100 back in a time of 50.47, while swimming the 200 back in a time of 1:49.60. Both times were also season-bests for Gliese. Gliese also helped the men start the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay, winning the race in a time of 1:31.94.
For his performances in the pool, he was named America East Male Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season.
